Changing Colors and Fontaine

PLEASE NOTE, THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED. CONGRATULATIONS NANCY!

You don’t have to like everything about a quilt pattern to want to make it. When we ran surveys asking about the content of our past issues, we always made sure to put several options when asking if our readers liked a pattern: “I like this pattern,” “I like the design but not the fabric,” “I like the fabric but not the design,” and “I do not like this pattern.” My personal opinion of Remember Me by Jennifer Schifano Thomas, patterned in Quilters Newsletter October/November 2016 or available as an individual digital pattern runs towards the “I like the design but not the fabric,” or more specifically, “I like the design but not the colors of the fabrics.”

Remember Me 800 Changing Colors and Fontaine

Remember Me by Jennifer Schifano Thomas, as patterned in Quilters Newsletter October/November 2016.

While I do think that orange, red, yellow, and medium green all have a place in quilting, this combination isn’t as appealing to me personally as some other combinations. When Jennifer originally submitted the design, it had different colors, which we collectively changed as it was planned for publication in an autumn issue, and these seemed like springtime colors:

RememberMe OrigColors 550 Changing Colors and Fontaine

Remember Me in the colors Jennifer Schifano Thomas originally submitted.

I personally like those colors better, but I spent a few too many years in elementary school wearing nothing but pink for me to consider using pink as a focal color in either my wardrobe or my quilting. Still quite liking the pattern, I took the flat shot image into Photoshop and played around with the colors. Do you have a color variation preference? (Click on images to enlarge.)

Remember Me ColorOpt4 Changing Colors and Fontaine

Maybe a little too dark?

Remember Me ColorOpt3 HueAltered Changing Colors and Fontaine

Still too pink for me.

Remember Me ColorOpt6 Changing Colors and Fontaine

I like this one, but maybe a different color for the outer border?

Remember Me ColorOpt7 Changing Colors and Fontaine

Only changing the off-white background to black lends the quilt a Halloween-theme, which I like better.

Remember Me ColorOpt11 Changing Colors and Fontaine

I like these colors, but they feel a little “soft” to me.

Remember Me ColorOpt13 Changing Colors and Fontaine

The nine patch and sashing colors blend a little too closely for my taste.

This week’s giveaway prize is a fat quarter bundle of Fontaine by Yvette Marie Jones of Vertmari design studio for P&B Textiles. I think the colors of this collection look strikingly similar to the colors of Jennifer Schifano Thomas’ original submission drawing: PB Fontaine Changing Colors and Fontaine

To enter for your chance to win a bundle of Fontaine, leave a comment on this post by 11:59 pm Mountain Time, Sunday, October 9, 2016, telling us something you wish you could change the colors on. Open to anyone worldwide who has not won anything from Quilters Newsletter in the past 90 days. If you are randomly selected as a winner, the email will come from QNMquestions@fwmedia.com with “Quilters Newsletter blog giveaway” in the subject line.
